.irg carrying the lo-fi torch with style

We have had the pleasure of reviewing .irg's latest single "peace of mind", and what a silky smoothe song! This song takes away all the stress that you may feel and lets you breathe out in another dimension. The song starts off with a power chord that immediately sets the mood for the whole song. With soft ambience in the background and calm vocals from .irg. The vocals feel a bit muddy at times, mostly because of the effects that they have on them. It walks on the border of "mumbling" at times, which is fine as it fits the vibe of the song. Naomi Mae comes in at 1.36 and stuns you with her beautiful vocals. Her vocals also sound very crisp, perfectly mixed and gives an amazing contrast to .irg's vocals. The two artists compliment each other very well. This again adds to the dynamics of the song.

A lo-fi song is only good if the vocalists perform, as the vocals are considered as one of the key instruments in this genre. So if the vocals are lacking in a lo-fi song, the whole song goes stale and turns out boring. This is not the case in "peace of mind". It was such a great idea to bring on Naomi on this project, and I hope .irg will keep doing collaborations like these in the future as well. The mix sounds great, the ambience hits just right and the centerpoint which is the vocals are just stunning throughout the whole song. Very well mixed!

.irg took the time to answer some questions as well, here is the interview with the rising lo-fi star.

What is your musical background? How did you get into music?

I never picked up an instrument until 2017. My family were all very musical. My brother and father could both play instruments and my mother could sing very well. One day, I went to Guitar Center and dropped $1000 on music equipment to get started and the rest is history. I only did that at the time because I felt like I needed another passion other than soccer. I had no idea if I would stick with it or not.

Why did you choose to be an artist?

I chose to be an artist so that I would have an outlet to express myself. There were many things in my

life that I was able to get through because I poured it into the music.

What are your ultimate career goals?

I want to be the best I can be at whatever the Lord brings in my path. I strive for perfection knowing that I will never be perfect. I want to be a light to others in a dark industry.

Tell me how you have been developing your music this far

The biggest thing I’ve been doing is trying to collaborate with as many different artists/styles I can broaden my skillset and be cognitive to the beauty of other genres of music.

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?

My father is from Ecuador and my mother is from Puerto Rico. I was born in Queens, New York, but moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania when I was very young. These 4 places all influence my music in some way, shape, or form.

Does music help you in other areas in your life?

My music helps me tremendously in all areas of my life. I would compare it to going to the gym or playing soccer. I can go into the studio and forget about the outside world for a little while and just create something beautiful.

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

The biggest challenge is not always seeing the desired results. Whether that is numbers, response, etc. it can sometimes be discouraging or challenging. When I feel like this, I remind myself why I make music.

What is your biggest accomplishment in your career this far?

My biggest accomplishments would be putting out a studio album in 2020 titled “too much to type”, putting out a 38-minute documentary of how the album was made, getting my single titled “new jersey” to 730k streams on Spotify, and getting verified on multiple social media/streaming platform outlets.
